Our Artists

Marie Accomiato

"I love working with Nouvelles Images. Our partnership is a very pleasant one,” says Marie Accomiato.

Marie Accomiato was born in Algiers in 1959. At the age of 17, she was given her first box camera and trained in photo printing with Jules Steimetz before joining the Publimod'Photo team, then that of Charles Goossens.

In the 1990s, she turned to artistic photography, mainly in black and white but occasionally in colour. A great traveller, she crossed the five continents and returned with photos of Ethiopia, India and South America.

Landscapes, scenes of daily life and dance: all her work shows great sensitivity and has nothing to do with photo reports or flashy images. The still life images she produces for Nouvelles Images have an old-world charm and reflect the artist’s characteristic gentleness.

Alongside her artistic work, in 2002 she opened her own black and white photography workshop in Paris and, in 2006, a publishing house, Ci Vediamo, which publishes artistic photography books.

In 2006, she had an exhibition of nudes entitled ‘Elles’ in Arles as part of the European festival of nude photography and, in 2007, she exhibited her photos of India at the ‘Maison de la photographie’ in Lille as part of the exhibition ‘Indianscope’.

Saisons Indiennes (Indian Seasons), a book produced with Elisabeth Foch (Publisher: Ci Vediamo)

Marie Accomiato has been travelling to India every year since 1995 , carefully observing the everyday life of the people. Elisabeth Foch has also spent much time travelling the country. Her writing tells us of a kaleidoscopic world ordered by the gods. ‘Saisons Indiennes’ is the result of their respective journeys.
