Andrée Prigent
Andrée Prigent is one of the main ‘children’s artists’ for Nouvelles Images with her gentle, colourful images.
Biography
Andrée Prigent was born in Brest in 1963. She qualified at the School of Fine Art
in Rennes where she still lives and works today. An author-illustrator, she works for the press and in advertising drawing and fabric design.
From 1991, influenced in her work by the author and illustrator Paul Cox, Andrée Prigent concentrated on illustrating books for children.
As well as being an illustrator, Andrée Prigent is also the author of four books for children, including Tibili et le chien du coiffeur (Tibili and the hairdresser’s dog) published by Magnard Jeunesse in 2000.
Andrée Prigent uses lino-cutting for her illustrations, which involves engraving on linoleum. This is her preferred technique because, she says, “there’s always a surprise when you lift the sheet”!
Taking her inspiration from printed Indian fabrics, Andrée Prigent also produces fabric designs for companies such as La Redoute and Fly.
Andrée Prigent is currently working on a children’s book that is the story of a Russian hare waiting for the snow...
Andrée Prigent began her partnership with Nouvelles Images in 2002 and it is likely that this “happy encounter”, as she calls it, will last a long time.
